A Few Thoughts on What That Means

A Dallas Business Man must be a man who does business in Dallas, right? Or maybe he is a business man who is from Dallas (but he could do business elsewhere). Or maybe his business is about Dallas, and then you have to ask which Dallas that could mean for there is more than one.

To be a business man is essentially to be a "business owner", although you could also be a "business executive". A business executive might also be an owner but we generally call owners "owners" and executives "executives" because they are not owners.

If that doesn't confuse you enough, think about all the business done in Dallas (whichever Dallas that may be) which is not about Dallas, for Dallas, or ever going to directly benefit Dallas. If you're a business man in Dallas that's one thing, but if you're just a man doing business in Dallas for somewhere else, what does that make you: a transient deal-maker?

We are perplexed by all the subtle variations on the meaning of the expression "Dallas Business Man". A Dallas business man may just be a man minding his own business (a real business, not the figurative business).
